Blog #3 LabCycle

We are proud to be awarded an Innovation Voucher valued at £18k to carry out a project titled “IV21 1240 - Life-cycle and economic analysis of various treatment strategies for single-used lab plastic waste and development of an experimental plan for plastic characterisation post-decontamination“.

The University of Surrey’s SME Innovation Voucher Scheme 2019 is designed to promote collaborative innovative projects between the University of Surrey and UK companies by offering vouchers to be used toward the costs of projects using the University’s academic expertise and its facilities. Special thanks for the grant writing support from Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH) and Kate Fryer - Grant Writer in Residence from SETsquared Bath Innovation Centre.

On May 11th, we attended the first Sustainable Research Symposium organised by a group of young & green researchers from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) in collaboration with Ava Sustain. Over 500 researchers around the world who are passionate about science and sustainability gathered to see how we can make research more sustainable. Fantastic speakers talked about what researchers and institutions in other countries are doing to go green, green purchasing for the lab, and what we can do to incentivise people. It was inspiring to see so many researchers calling for actions!

The last but not the least, on May 26th, we pitched online to potential investors and mentors at SETsquared’s GradInvest 2021 final round. In the past month, our team spent a lot of time to refine our pitch deck, executive summary and our ask for investment. We reflected, self-corrected and grew together. It was an incredible event and it was great meeting other incredible entrepreneurs.
