Launch: Great West - Celebrating scientific innovation emerging from the universities of the Great West
The Launch: Great West Awards will bring members of the research, business and entrepreneurial communities together for an evening of celebration, inspiration and building connections. The awards recognise the successes of scientific companies at all stages, as well as members and organisations that have supported the businesses and enabled them to flourish.
As a centre of world leading academic expertise and innovation excellence, the Great West has been identified as a key region in the UK Industrial Strategy, with the area supporting thriving activity across Life Sciences, Advanced Engineering, and Quantum Technology.
The inaugural Launch: Great West awards will be held in Bristol in June 2019, providing the opportunity to showcase the scientific commercialisation activity in Universities in the region. The event will champion spin-outs and start-ups spanning all fields of science and bring together the innovation community for an evening of celebration, inspiration, and building connections.
Award categories will recognise the recent successes and potential of scientific companies at all stages, as well as the members of the community and organisations supporting these businesses.
The Launch: Great West awards will act to raise the public profile of the region as a vibrant and supportive hub for the commercialisation of science.

An award that recognises ambitious growth by expansion of capability or accessing new national or international markets.
Judging Process
Submit your nomination before the deadline of Monday 15th April 2019. Applications will be assessed by a judging panel comprising representatives from Launch: GW sponsors and leading figures in business and innovation communities. The panel will produce an initial shortlist of the finalists for each award category to be announced on the Launch: Great West website. Award winners will be announced at the Launch: GW Awards ceremony on Thursday 6th June 2019.
Launch: Great West award winners are expected to display significant potential or achievement in one or more key areas. This includes the ingenuity of their scientific innovation, the capabilities of their team or company, their potential for impact or growth, and evidence of significant milestones achieved to date. The scope of the Launch: Great West Awards is to celebrate science-driven ventures based in the South West of England and South Wales. Unfortunately, they cannot accept nominations for companies that are solely software-based, without demonstrable scientific innovation.
