Our Looking Further series brings together industry, academia and government to discuss collaborative approaches to solving big issues affecting our future.

This event will showcase some case studies of how the University is supporting and driving innovation in sustainable technology. There will be the opportunity to hear from entrepreneurs seeking to create new businesses and academic researchers providing insights into new methodologies and approaches. A panel Q&A will be chaired by Veronica Hope Hailey, Vice President of Corporate Engagement and Dean of the School of Management.

John Hewitt, Partner of Hewitt Studios
John first founded his practice, John Hewitt Architects in 1995, working in the area of regeneration with clients such as New Star and Hydro. Hewitt Studios LLP was established in 2008, focussing on architecture that delivers longer term flexible use for clients and that is more responsive to change. John has extensive experience of leading regeneration in practice and of the articulation of sustainable building technologies.

Professor Matt Davidson, Director of Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies
Matthew Davidson established the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies at Bath in 2008 and is currently Director of its EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). He held Lectureships in the Department of Chemistry at Cambridge (1995) and at Durham University (1995-1999) before being appointed to a Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bath in 1999. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is a previous recipient of the Harrison Memorial Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Royal Society Industry Fellowship. Professor Davidson graduated in Chemistry from the University of Wales, Swansea in 1990 and received a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1993.

George Kalligeros, Co-founder and CEO of Pushme Bikes
George Kalligeros, a previous postgraduate student at the University of Bath, was formerly a design engineer at Tesla developing systems for the Model S and has also worked for Bentley Motors. In 2016 he co-founded Pushme Bikes where his team developed the #Pushpod, a network of battery swap stations for last-mile electric transport, providing instant recharge in multiple locations across the city. Pushme Bikes Limited is venture backed by SOS ventures and has received start-up support from the University of Bath Set Squared Partnership.

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Vice-President Corporate Engagement, Dean and Head of the School of Management
Professor Veronica Hope Hailey has two senior management roles at the University and holds a Chair in Management Studies. She specialises in working with large, mature organisations in collaborative research partnerships and is particularly interested in the relationships between organisational change and individual transition. Veronica teaches and consults on an international basis, sits on several boards and is involved in a number of government initiatives connected with people and productivity.

Kevin O'Malley, Innovate UK
Kevin is Innovation Lead/ SBRI Lead Customer in the Clean Growth and Infrastructure Directorate at Innovate UK and is responsible for managing internal and external relationships, technology strategy and delivery with partners across central and local government, with the aim of boosting procurement-led innovation and growth in cities.
