Starting a Business Straight out of Graduation + Innovation Awards Info Session

Our next event in the Entrepreneurship Programme is an opportunity for you to find out what it’s like to start your business straight out of graduation. We’ll also be telling you how you can apply for an Innovation Award (where we fund innovative soon-to-be-graduates to work on their business for one year!) as well as opening the floor to your questions.

What you can expect

Part 1 - Paul tells us about his entrepreneurial journey since graduating in 2019

Part 2 - We tell you about the Innovation Awards including dates for your diary and why you should think about applying

Part 3 - Rosie shares her entrepreneurial journey and shares advice on applying for an Innovation Award from the perspective of a judging panellist.

About the guest hosts

Paul Hetherington started his business straight out of graduation in 2019 after winning one of our University of Bath Innovation Awards in the 2019/20 cohort. He now runs Mystic - a thriving Bath-based tech company employing other Bath graduates.

Sign up below to hear about his journey, how he raised millions of pounds of investment and what it's like getting into Y Combinator.

Rosie Bennett is an entrepreneur in her own right and has been a judge on our Innovation Award panels since they were established. Rosie has worked with innovative startups for a number of years and is currently the Scale Up Manager for SETsquared. Rosie knows what kind of businesses and people we like to see win the Award so she is a great person to answer your questions.

Rosie was on the judging panel when Paul pitched for an Innovation Award (with Mystic, previously named Neuro AI) and supported his company whilst he was a SETsquared Bath Innovation Centre member. By the time this event takes place in March Rosie will have officially joined the Mystic team as their COO which is a fantastic story!

Who should come?

Any student interested in starting their own business! Despite the Innovation Awards only being open to final year students or postgraduates it is still worth finding out about the process for when you want to continue working on your business or launch one straight after graduation. No job-hunting just fully committing to your business with our support and resources for one full year.

You can get all of your startup, funding and Innovation Award questions answered in one brilliant online session from Mystic HQ on Wednesday 9th March at 5:30pm. This event will be recorded and shared in our Microsoft Teams group.
